[Outfit Inspiration] My so called Style

90’s inspired look has been around for a while this year, I’m not gonna talk about it. I just want to indulge in some “actual” grunge style. Lately I’ve been spending my nights watching old episodes of My So Called Life and I love, love, love Angela Chase’s effortless style. It so laid back and cozy sporting several flannels and old jumpers and yet it’s feminine thanks to floral skirts and long-dresses. The thing that I like the most about grunge style, though, is the “art of layering”. Dresses over t-shirts, gilets over jumpers, the ever-green lumberjack flannel carelessly thrown on any outfit… I’m in love!

[London Tales] Bokehlicious Sunsets

Wandering around and taking pictures is one of my favorite thing. And then I have fun by aplaying with effects. This time I played around with bokeh. These are several sunsets that I took from my window.

Festival dell'Handmade

Passate parola e partecipate!

10 characteristics for creative women + some thoughts about creativity

Today I want to share with you a list of 10 characteristics that creative women seem to have in common as well as some personal thoughts about creativity.
I found this list on Living Out Loud by Keri Smith, now I know that I’ve probably stated that before, but I don’t mind to repeat myself: if you haven’t read this book yet, then please do, it’s one of the most inspiring book ever. I keep reading it again and again and every time I find something that speaks to me.

Basically on the chapter of the book related to Connecting, Keri talks about her love for biographies and journals written by women. She explains how the act of getting to know lives and thoughts of great women from the past and how they managed to overcome dark periods and difficult moments can inspire us and help us to overcome self doubt too.  She listed a bunch of characteristics shared by those women. I think they’re good habits that we could all try to implement in our lives. Here they are:

1. A passion for nature
2. A connection with something greater than themselves
3. A connection with childhood memories
4. A connection to other artists, writers and creators
5. A sharing of ideas and inspiration: creative gatherings, dinners, support groups, cafe meetings, letter writing, afternoon teas
6. A need for, and a confidence in, solitude
7. A capacity for self-motivation: inspiring walks, travel, learning new skills, reading, cooking, exploring
8. An experience of pain, and the triumph of moving beyond it to create a well of strength
9. A gift of mindfulness and an ability to see magic in the ordinary
10. An experience of gratefulness and compassion for all the good things and people in their lives

Well, Keri Smith noticed all the above characteristics in women writers, but if you think about it, these characteristics are not really only about writers, they’re about any artist.
Here I would like to underline something. Very often when we talk about creative women (or people), we think about someone doing a creative job, pursuing a career in a creative field or any kind of artist. But really creativity belongs to each one of us. See, creativity is not just something related to mainstream (or independent) art. Being creative is related to creating. Creating as making something that wasn’t there before. And, well, we all do that. In fact we’re all doing that most of the time. Cooking, putting an outfit together, arranging your bedroom, working at a new playlist on your iPod… Isn’t that all a matter of creating? In this sense, we were all born artists, we can all contribute to give something new to this old world. We are all creative beings and our creativity resides in our uniqueness. Don’t you ever forget that, don’t you ever allow to anyone (not even yourself) to stop you from express yourself and being as creative as you like and, above all, don’t you ever stop to enjoy the process of being creative every single day. By accepting and nurturing your creative life, you will endlessly feed the (big) little artist in yourself. I promise you that your life will be much more beautiful and worth it.
